Another communications failure was announced as France became the latest nation to cease official contact with the White House. As with most countries, there has been a near total breakdown of internal communication systems as electricity, telephone and cell phone services fail and battery power runs low, but the loss of satellite communication indicates a darker situation at all levels of the French government.
Satellite communications can be interrupted by mechanical failure, solar flares and natural disasters. This leaves a short list of grim conclusions. Circumstances in France may have forced sat phone operators indoors, where they cannot maintain a line-of-sight view to their satellites, and official satellite communication may be failing at the terminal, meaning no one is available or cognizant enough to answer.
The situation may be temporary, but by the time it resumes our citizens will be running low on food, fuel for back-up generators and battery power, and be months away from restoration of local power networks and food distribution. We must leave the fate of the world by the side of road and in the hands of U.S. Strategic Command, as our ability to help and be helped by distant lands shrinks day by day.
